Caravan Serai Winery Design in progress

Taylor Lombardo Architects are currently working on a new 33,000 s.f. winery in Napa, CA. The new facility, Caravan Serai Winery, was named after the Caravanserai’s of the historic Silk Road of Eurasia, which were roadside inns where travelers could rest and recover from the day’s journey.

Located at the gateway to the Napa Valley along St. Helena Highway, the new contemporary winery will include a large hospitality center with a grand central courtyard, as well as a state of the art winery production building. Completion is scheduled for the fall of 2013.

Wine Center opens in Wuxi, China

Taylor Lombardo Architects is pleased to announce the opening of the Wuxi Wine Center in Wuxi, China.

Completed in December 2011, the 40,000 s.f. wine retail center includes several tasting bars, wine retail areas, restaurants, private tasting rooms, private wine lockers, and a wine museum. The complex is constructed on two subterranean levels.

The wine center was designed to reflect the essence of Napa Valley and features wines from around the world. Local stone, wood and glass provides a sophisticated atmosphere for this innovative space and sets the tone for today's wine enthusiasts.

The center is located in the financial district of Wuxi which has a population of 7 million people. Wuxi is one of the fastest growing cities in China and is approximately 45 minutes from Shanghai by train. This will be the first of several wine centers the developer plans on opening throughout China.

We Won the 2011 Traditional Wood Design Award

For the second consecutive year, Taylor Lombardo Architects won the 2011 Traditional Use of Wood Award.
This award commended the use of wood at the South Fermentation Building of Nickel and Nickel Winery, in Oakville, California.
The California Wood Design Awards are presented to architects and engineers who demonstrate innovation and excellence in the design of wood buildings.

Tuscan Villa Style Residence

We are excited about our newly completed Tuscan Villa style residence in Portola Valley. With nearly 9,500 square feet of main house, guest house, and pool house, the project also has several inviting outdoor-living areas to enjoy the beautifully landscaped 2.6 acre site. This includes four outdoor fireplaces, each displaying a different type of antique Italian firebrick. Several reclaimed materials were used throughout the residence to give it an authentic old world look.

Francis Ford Coppola Winery Progress Update

Work on Francis Ford Coppola’s new winery continues, now with an even more fevered pace as the project begins to near completion. Every week now, significant milestones are reached as millions of dollars of construction is put into place. As we get closer and closer to our opening date, the anticipation and media attention grows.

Built on the roots of what was once Chateau Souverain, this new winery brings a completely new concept to this popular wine region. Inspired by the “pleasure gardens” of Tivoli, and mixed with Mr. Coppola’s recent influences from Argentina that he gained while producing his latest film Tetro, this unique site will treat guests not only to the world famous Coppola wines, but also an estate garden setting that will feature internationally certified bocce courts, a performance pavilion, amphitheater, and a circular outdoor grill all surrounding a massive family friendly pool with 28 luxury changing “cabines”.

Unlike the traditional model of having visitors taste your wine and quickly leave, this new concept will encourage people to come with their entire family and stay for the day and well into the night while enjoying the wine, the food and the vast collection of memorabilia from Mr. Coppola’s film history on display. One thing is for sure, with the creativity and passion that this team has brought to the project coupled with imagination and ambition of such a renowned client, this project is certain to set a new standard in winery hospitality.

Winery Project Nearing Completion

Construction on the facility for Kelly Fleming Wines, a boutique winery in Calistoga, is nearly complete!

One of our favorite things about this building is the glass and steel wall connecting the tasting room to the barrel storage cave – the view into the cave is spectacular.

We also love the traditional Genoise detailing at the eaves – our contractor, Koala Development Corp., did an amazing job!
